HEALTH CARE AIDE CERTIFICATE
The Health Care Aide Certificate program prepares health care aide workers who, under the supervision of a nurse assist hospital patients, personal care home residents or home care aide clients with meeting physical, emotional and social needs. The program consists of nine theory course totalling 300 hours, four workshops and 240 hours of clinical experience.
Study Skills Workshop

In this workshop, you will learn how to study more efficiently and effectively. Some of the topics covered are: note taking, test taking, developing a study routine, what to look for when reading a textbook and managing your school & personal time.
Health Care Delivery

This course offers a brief description of the health care system in Manitoba, the health care team and the individial roles of the team members. Other topics include considerations in caring for multi-cultural client groups, ethics, legalities, problem solving and organization of work. (This is a prerequisite for all other Health Care Aide Courses.)
Safety in Health Care Settings
This course includes the following topics: principle of asepsis, precautions for infection control and preventing the spread of communicable diseases. Emphasis is placed on accident and fire prevention and the role of the health care aide in emergencies.
Growth and Development
20 hrs: $175.00
This course examines the process of communication and develops interpersonal communication skills. Concepts such as basic human needs, the helping relationship, mental health and stress are reviewed in terms of their impact on interpersonal relationships. The course also provides theory and practice related to written communication, job search skills and the use of medical terminology.

This certificate program will provide you with the skills to work with children and youth experiencing behavioural and emotional challenges. You will learn how to intervene and assess situations and formulate strategies to help children, youth and their families identify and resolve concerns and enhance their quality of life.

This certificate program will provide you with the skills for a career working with students in an educational setting to support the work of teachers and clinicians. Students study and explore the developmental needs of children, as well as the instructional strategies to meet those needs. There is a focus on a variety of relevant topics ranging from inclusive education and learner characteristics to supporting the learning environment, managing behaviour and professionalism. Students with prior experience as an educational assistant may qualify for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) - a process which documents and compares and individual's prior learning gained from prior education, work and life experiences and personal study to the learning outcomes in College courses/programs.
